8 Spooky Beers to Drink This Halloween (That Aren't Pumpkin Flavored)

I love this time of year. Ghost stories, conspiracy theories, murder podcasts - shout out My Favorite Murder. I'm currently blogging this while watching The Blair Witch Project for the first time. And what better way to celebrate than with some beers? While there are pumpkin flavored options everywhere this time of year, I rounded up some great alternatives with spooky themes perfect for a spoooooooky celebration.

1. Avery Brewing Co.'s White Rascal

This spooky beer is a Belgian style white ale that's unfiltered and spiced with coriander and orange peel. From Colorado's Avery Brewing Co., it's a crisp drink with 5.6% ABV.

2. Empyrean Brewing Company's Dark Side

This vanilla porter from Empyrean out of Lincoln, Nebraska is a smooth vanilla porter brewed with vanilla beans and vanilla extract. It's smooth and dark with hints of coffee and chocolate.

3. Surly's Todd the Axe Man

Todd the Axe Man is Surly's famous West Coast IPA. Named after their head brewer at the time, it was first brewed as a collab with Amager Brewery in Denmark. It's a hoppy IPA that clocks in at 7.2% ABV.

4. Ballast Point's Victory at Sea

Another porter, this one brewed with coffee and vanilla and a little bit stronger at 10.0% ABV. The imperial porter is strong but sweet with the coffee and vanilla really coming through.

5. Great Lakes Brewing Co.'s Nosferatu

I remember watching Nosferatu in media class in high school. V spooky. This Imperial Red Ale is a seasonal beer from Ohio's Great Lakes Brewing. It's a malty and mild and worth a try.

6. Stone Brewing's Vengeful Spirit IPA

This new one from Stone is a tropical IPA. It's unfiltered and brewed with pineapple and mandarin oranges. A great choice from the San Diego brewery to hop on that tropical IPA trend.

7. Fulton Brewery's Specter IPA

Specter is a New England-style IPA. Originally called Grog, it's been renamed and canned in 16 oz four-packs. It's hazy and creamy. Available only for a limited time, so get it while you can!

8. New Holland Brewing's The Poet

A nod to the spooky stories of Edgar Allen Poe, this creamy oatmeal stout is an easy drinking dark beer. It was first brewed all the way back in 1999. It's classic, creamy and malty goodness.
